Why Do People Applaud After a Performance?

Would you clap at a painting? Would you clap at a painting when the artist himself is present? A performance is an artwork. It doesn’t need applause. On the contrary, the applause takes away a great deal of the magic. Seriously. A performance is not a stage play. An artist is not an actor. We have to get rid of that personality cult.
